Business resources

BELD offers a variety of resources to help a wide range of commercial establishments—from small neighborhood coffee shops to large shopping centers. In this section you’ll find ways to save on your electric costs, bid on an upcoming project and more.

BELD supports Braintree business with an aggressive rate structure aimed at attracting local businesses and keeping them in town.

Lighten up energy audits:

Working in partnership with Energy New England (ENE), Braintree Electric Light Department offers an energy conservation program called Lighten Up designed to help our commercial and industrial customers lower their electric costs—primarily through lighting upgrades, but also through approved conservation measures.

To encourage customers to complete identified energy savings opportunities, the program includes both a free on-site technical survey (audit) and financial assistance in the form of a rebate. On-site audits are conducted by ENE and are available to any commercial customer in BELD’s service territory. Working with BELD’s Key Accounts Representative, an ENE commercial energy auditor will conduct an inspection of existing interior and exterior lighting and complete a report that identifies specific energy-saving opportunities and recommends retrofits. Upon completion of the work and a subsequent inspection, BELD will determine the amount of the rebate.

We encourage our commercial customers to start saving on their electric costs.

Braintree Electric Light Department (BELD) is a municipal, not-for-profit electric utility that serves every business and home in Braintree, Massachusetts.

Information technologies

In addition to serving as the electric utility for Braintree, BELD also provides IT support to municipal buildings and employees (except schools). BELD IT has seven full-time employees and serves as an around the clock call shop and tech support for town staff which includes all networks, hardware, and physical and cyber security systems.

All town buildings are connected via BELD fiber with redundant loops in case a line was to be cut or damaged. Equipment is rotated out every five to seven years and servers are changed as needed. BELD is also helping the Town create a plan for document digitization across all departments to allow for the removal of storage cabinets which take up valuable space.
