UPDATE 12/11: Latest phone scams

We have received many, many reports of various phone scams to Braintree residents from callers claiming to be from BELD. These call or texts are NOT from BELD--please do not respond or give out any information. If you happen to receive a call like this, please report it to the Braintree Police Department.
Below are some of the reports we have had. Remember that your experience may be different. If you have any doubt, do not engage the caller--let us know by calling us at 781.348.BELD (2353), and report it to the police.

Phone calls--please DO NOT give out any information

  • We have another report of a customer being called from "Jupiter Support" in Scottsdale, AZ, telling them there is a problem with their computers and they need access to repair it, then their computer freezes and the company says they can fix the problem for $299 and ask for the customers CC information. Customers are told they support BELD/ATT/Comcast/Etc... one number reported was from 866.804.1808. NEVER give access to your computer to ANYONE, these are alwyas a scam.
  • From a caller (may be from 844.372.9385) claiming that the resident's power will be shut off within the hour if s/he doesn't make a payment over the phone. Caller says the resident may not go down to the office to pay. NOTE: Calling back this number will give you recorded and prompts that sound exactly like those on BELD's phone system, and a human (not an actual BELD employee) does eventually answer. If you are unsure of the origination of a call, remember to call the number we've always had, 781.348.BELD (2353).
  • From various numbers with 617 area code, asking customers to sign up with them and pay BELD bills at a reduced cost.
  • And most recently, from a Braintree phone number that appears to be BELD's. If you have any question at all if the call is coming from BELD, hang up and call us directly.

Text reading: "We would like to thank you for your BELD loyalty and offer you a chance at a Walmart gift card valued at $1000." This is also NOT from us.
